Funny Bone makes move to Boardwalk
The last joke was told Sunday night at the Funny Bone in downtown Shreveport. The comedy club, an original tenant in the Red River District, closed its doors Sunday and started its move Monday across the river to Louisiana Boardwalk.
Unable to expand in its small spot in the district, the owners decided to move to the former King Pinz in the Boardwalk. But more than good jokes are in store. The new Funny Bone will also be home to a dueling piano bar.
Here's the full story.
Tell me what you guys think. I'm actually surprised the move didn't come sooner. Is the move a good idea? After all, two other businesses have flopped in the exact same location. Are dueling pianos enough to draw in a crowd each weekend?
My girlfriends and I visited a dueling piano bar two summers ago in Las Vegas. Of all the sights and excitement Vegas has to offer, this was my favorite spot. Hopefully, Shreveport ... oops, I mean Bossier City ... will have the same opinion.

Well I don't know. But I do know that I booked the opening black guy that works at the FB in the movie. Woot.
Lee Adams is his name. Really nice guy. I talked to him yesterday and he was excited about the movie.
Yes, yes, that's the one. I couldn't remember his name but it's all coming back now.
PS. Michael Douglas stared me down. Will rehash story in person.
They normally do that when people are staring them down. You don't have to admit it, but I know that's what was going on.
Or did you mention your thing about Catherine Zeta Jones?
I was an innocent bystander I swear. Not gawking, just sitting reverently in his presence. And I got an intense stare. As Ryan as my witness, I do not lie.
I have not been aware of this, but did you revived The Signature Move?
Little Rock has dueling piano bars right across the street from each other, and they are both PACKED on the weekends. Another thing I feel Shreveport is lacking is a nightlife "area". Everything is too spread out. The closest thing to it is the Cub/Sharpies/Fat Cat area.
Ah yes, the corner of Youree and Kings. Good spots, although they are all similar. I can't do Sharpie's. The smoke is enough to cause temporary blindness.
And I think Shreveport tried to centralize entertainment spots ... it was called the Red River District. We all know how that worked. I agree with you, it's a nice idea. But in Shreveport it seems more like a fairy tale.
The Red River District's problem wasn't location or anything, it was everything in there sucking.
Things I'd like to see in the Red River District: cosplay, bike rentals, skateboards and active transportation.
I think they don't know what do to with the Red River District. There is a lot of talk about making it a family area, but I don't think it's a good spot for that. Look at everything else around the Red River District: gambling and bars.
With the casinos, it is an awesome late night spot. Live music, restaurants that stay open late, etc.
For instance, look at the corner of Kings and Youree. None of those places are doing anything different than the other places, but people like that all those spots are clustered right there. They can roam from one spot to another. I think if the district started something like this, where you payed a reasonable cover and got access to all the spots, it may do a little better.
I was at the Funnybone last Friday. Do you know the name of the other MC that works for them? I've seen him a few times and I think he's incredible. Very smart and edgy.
The only MC I know from the Funny Bone is Lee Adams. Maybe they've got a new guy since the comedy club made its move.
I heard the Friday night show was really good. What about the comedian in his Brit boxers ... or better yet, his tube sock! I've never seen that at the Funny Bone before.
